I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

Hey guys! I gotta tell you that something occurred to me recently while I was at the gym. I’m sooo blessed to have friends and family members who are working out and living a healthy lifestyle. I am so grateful to them because it makes a huge difference when people with similar fitness goals support you.

I mean, sure, you have to have your friends who you get drinks with, but what about friends that inspire your health!? It’s important! Think of like this. If you can find a really good circle of super-fit friends, it will help keep you motivated or even push you to the next level.

Here are two quick tips to get you moving in the right direction.

1. Running clubs – Believe it or not, there are actually group running clubs all around the country. For most of them, you can just sign up online. They’ll send you a schedule and you’re off. Some of them are even free! What’s wrong with networking while you get fit!? I haven’t tried it yet but I hear good things about blackgirlsrun.com! In fact they have 6 ambassadors Manhattan. Check them out!

2. If running isn’t really your thing, you can always try MeetUp.com. It’s an oldie but goodie! With 30 million members spread out over 182 countries, MeetUp.com is guaranteed to have a “meet up” that suits your needs. Never tried it? Just go to the website and search for what you’re looking for. You’ll get a list of upcoming dates where people are interacting around that activity. Most of the meets are free and you’ll always connect with interesting people. They have meets ups for everything from yoga to track meets. Try it!

Anyway, no matter what you try, it’s important that you connect with people who have similar health and fitness goals—it’ll make it so much easier to accomplish your fitness mission. You can do it yourself, buy why would you?

- XOXO, Wasidah
